Whatever the situation, take direct action to resolve people issues such as these in order to avoid a downward production spiral that can be costly over time. I recently heard a comment from an associate’s friend that made me realize that there are so many people that really have no idea what it takes to have a successful web site. Maybe she is correct. With today’s countless open source projects, anybody can build a web site.. And once a site is up and running what good does it do us if we don’t have anybody visiting our site, purchasing our products, or hiring us for our services. I, myself, would rather spend my money on other products, or make sure my money is well spent. My ultimate goal is teaching “YOU” how to make your web site “work for you”.

I am constantly being asked, “If web site links are a great way to improve your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) then how and where do I get web site links?”

Many companies offer to sell link swaps and many web owners, web designers and programmers are fooled into believing that such a link strategy will help their SEO. They are wrong. What those companies never tell you is that Search Engines have gotten very smart and can tell if you are using a link farm. Not only will this NOT increase your placement on the search engines but you may find yourself banned from the search engines. Putting you and your business back at square 1 with your SEO. So I think it is time to talk about the best way to build links to your web site and why you couldn’t have a little bit of fun along the way.

One of the easiest ways to create inbound links to your web site is a company blog. I like to create a blog on blogspot.com and then post all of my ideas and thoughts there. But even better for your web site is if you find other blogs that interest you and comment on them. Become a huge part of the business community you are involved with. You know your business and sometimes the best way to keep up on your business knowledge is to learn from others. If you know something that might help others, spread the wealth. There is a huge world out there and we can all benefit from each other. Create a blog or contribute to one or more blogs and have some fun. If you contribute to a blog, make sure you follow the protocols of that blog and also make sure that you include a link to your own blog or website so other readers can easily connect with you.

While we are talking about blogs, I know there are times and places for free blogging software like blogspot.com but if your business is in need of something more, there are so many programs that you can put on your very own URL and create a larger blogging community. We suggest Wordpress as an option. Setting up a Wordpress site can sometimes be confusing and complicated, and you might need to have this software set up for you, but once you are up and running, feel the power of the blog.

Social networking and your SEO is such a confusing concept and such a huge concept that we are only going to cover the basics here today.

There are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of social networks. There are social networks that specialize in specific categories, and social networks that specialize in absolutely no categories. How do you choose and how do you spend your time.

The ones that we will talk about are the most common and most used, and the dangers of some of these.

First lets start with the list of the social networks that you've probably already heard about.

Twitter is by far the most simplistic version. It really has only 1 function. To send updates to those who are following you. But everybody seems to be using twitter, so how do you get somebody to follow you. A subject for another day. But what can you do to make twitter, help your SEO. It's very simple, links to your web site. Every time you twitter, if you ad a link to your web site, this is considered, "a link" and these links, if held in relevance with the SEARCH ENGINES, will help boost your ranking.

Facebook, Myspace, and Tagged are all places where you can go and set up a profile that fits your personality, you can change layouts, backgrounds, add a personal flair and possibly include your business links. The downfalls to these sites, is that they are by design "SOCIAL NETWORKS" or what most of us would call Free Dating Sites, you will find more singles, than businesses on these sites than you will find businesses, but even singles are consumers and may use your products or services, so it really never hurts to set up on these sites, just be careful what you do with your profile and make sure you keep it business as usual, even though the pull to socialize is large on these sites, try and keep yourself professional and a true representation of your business. Make sure your profile is unique to you, try not to use one of there mass production profile designs.

An last is LinkedIn, This is a situation that is by far the most useful to your business, because it is set to businesses, and business professionals. It is a great place to put your resume, and business profile if you are looking for other businesses to find you.

It doesn't really matter which of these you choose, or if you have the time, choose all of the above, here are the things you need to remember when using social networks to promote your business. Include links to your web site as often as possible, don't ever include direct links to your email, instead include a link to your contact page ( I assume that all of you know not to put your email on your contact us page, always use forms instead, also a subject for another day).

I know that you have heard a lot about search engine friendly URL's, but do you really know what they are and what they can do for you. This week somebody asked me why I put my important client links on my blog and why I promote the power of trading links from my blog to my clients web sites.

I guess this is as good as any time to cover this since I placed it in my newsletter this week.

Web Links are a very powerful tool in promoting your web site. First of all I think it is important to point out that "Quality Links" are much more important that the "Quanity of Links". So when exchanging links with others, you want to make sure that they have similar keywords, or content or that you have something on your web sites in common with each other. Before sitting up links go with the quality of your links first, then if you have to, use the quantity factor second. If you look on any of my blogs, forums, or even my facebook page you will notice that many of my clients web site links are available in some form. Yahoo's version of Site: search

This week we are going to venture in an area that I don't usually work with, and very seldom support. But I believe that working with your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) should never be limited to just one source. So this week I did a little reasearch on Yahoo's Webmaster Tools and Site Searches. There are so many ways to promote your web site in Yahoo, Google, Ask, MSN, etc. So this week I am going to add a few links to help you find information on increasing your views and stats with YAHOO.

If you are familiar with Googles "Site: search" option. I found a similar option in Yahoo.
I know that this option isn't going to boost your standing in Yahoo, but it will give you an idea of where you stand and some of the vital key words that Yahoo, has indexed for you.

So question number 1:
         Where is this link to Yahoo's site search....
            https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/

You must have a current Yahoo Id to use most webmaster tools, but this is not unexpected. The same holds true for Google. In order to get the best SEO for your business, having Id's to all of the top search engines is beneficial to your business and your SEO.

Question number 2:
         How do I use this information?
         Using site explorer for yahoo, is similar to Google's Site: search. So you would use it in the same manner. Find all of the products, pages, and content that Yahoo has indexed for your site, then you can take the content from these page and increase either your meta tags, texts, or other indexing information to increase your site standing.
        Another important usage for this function is to see if your site has been hacked and somebody is using your url to auto post and increase their standings (This is common for porn sites, and other sites that have questionable content.

Using Your Google Reports for SEO

CD&D is in the steps of merging 2 businesses into 1, and in the process, we are going to do some redesigning of the web site and the newsletter to allow for some of the new information that our sister company will be bringing in. Many designs will show up under the print products, and the web products.  We will soon have a full time person dedicated to nothing but your "Search Engine Optimization". We all know the importance of using our Google reports, but does anybody really know what to do with that information. Lets work with just 1 or 2 of the reports that are available.  Everyone should understand the value of sitemaps. Every web site should always have a site map. There are many ways to accomplish this and I know that there are numerous free site map generators on the web. Many of your Open Source programs come with sitemaps already functioning for you. (Once again a shameless plug for Open Source). But have you asked yourself what good is a site map. Well put simply its just a text version of what you have and where you have it. This is a quick easy way for all of the search engines to index all of your content without having to travel through code heavy pages. So now ask yourself how do I find out if this is doing any good for my site. This is where the Site: operator in Google comes in. By using both the Site: operator and your site map, you can not only tell whether or not your site map is working, but in how many different ways it is working. Don't be worried if these 2 don't exactly mesh their information together. This is only a general science and a way to generally lead information in your direction.  So here is how it works. Go to Google.com and in the search box put in Site: www.mysite.com (replacing my site with your actual site address). Hit the search button and ask yourself, is everything on your site map showing up. If not, this is a discussion for another day. This post came directly from our weekly news letter. But I wish to challenge everybody to chime in on their opinion of the current browser wars and which browser you support.

I still think I am a firefox fan, but I may be swayed to Google Chrome. Tell me what you think....

We have a saying here, and yes I know it is probably in bad taste, but..... I'm going to repeat it anyway, just to prove a point.

"At the end of this current resession only 3 companies will be left standing....
Microsoft
Walmart
Google"

Obviously this isn't true, but it is kind of funny, and here is what brings us to this current statement..
Why do you think these 3 companies seem to be hanging on, while the rest just seem to be struggling bits and pieces at a time.

These companies have been able to bend without breaking, and thinking outside of a shrinking box. When the world changes drastically on a dime, they go out their way to comply with these changes.
They seem to be able to walk away from the things that don't work and quickly come back, with some thing that does. A great example of this is, Google, who now has it own browser. Yes we know that Internet Explorer is still the main browser used by most, but that is because it is a Microsoft product. I don't think Google is going to go away, so a browser of their own seemed to be the next step.

I decided to give it a try, mostly because I would NEVER promote Internet Explorer. As a programmer and a Webmaster. Internet Explorer has failed to keep up with the times. The don't seem to support current W3 programming standards, and they never offered any tools to the programmers and the Webmaster. In turn those who are the professionals in the field of the Internet have faltered in support of IE. As Webmaster's, Programmer's, and SEO researchers, our team has in the past supported Firefox. But each and every one of us has agreed to use Google Chrome for 1 month and give a thumbsup or a thumbsdown on this most resent Google takeover.

I for one, give a complete thumbs up. This week I am going to put the question to everybody on my blog. You have the option to give your opinion on Google Chrome, Firefox, or IE (if you so choose, although I don't know why you would).

So sit back and download the new Chrome (click here for Chrome information) and then take a minute to log onto my blog and chime in. Go ahead let me have it if you are a IE supporter. I don't mind.

I realize that this has noting to do with your Google standings, or how to help yourself grow to the top of Google. It's Been a long time coming

I was out surfing the net the other day when I came across this old blog that I started back when I first started Cassie Designs and Web Development.
I noticed all of the links of the sites I did when I first started and a few things came to me here.
First of all my skills are Soooooo much better, and second the internet has evolved in the last 7 years.
Programming for the internet has become so much bigger and there are so many more Open Source projects out there. So one of the biggest things that Cassie Designs and Web Development will be doing with the new web site release that is coming soon, is offer templates and gadgets for some of the more popular open source projects and news and opinions on some of the newer ones.
So keep in touch as the weeks go by and hopefully I can shed some light on where to get your business started.

Instead of having a links partners page, I have choosen do put all of my links partners on blog pages. This will make it possible for each of my links partners to post their own links and link partners without me having to program them in. Then I just include a link to the blog from my site.

This one is a little incomplete. She has yet to decide what exactly she wants this to do except to bring her business, but she doesn't have much to offer anyone coming to her site. I need to work on this.

This one is a seasonal one, and having a breif season, the winter months are spent sending out e-mails to get the cabins full before the next season.
I hope to fill the cabins for next year by the end of this winter. http://www.angelvalleycamp.com I one of the greatest quiet places I have ever had to stay. It was a little cold at the beginning of the season and there were alot of spiders in the cabins but other than that I loved it.

I have 2 holistic health specialist web sites. Both doing the same type of work, but each a specialist in his or her own right.
